Red Rocks & the Beauty of Fall!

Saturday’s Workout Wanda: Exactly 28:10 minutes of running in out and back loops while my mom was walking along the trail. Also pumped out NROLFW 2.A.2.
Sunday’s Workout Wanda: About 9 miles of biking along the Bear Creek trails with mom. No running!

Well, I skipped out on another day of posting, but I guess that is a good thing as I did mention earlier this week that if my posting lagged off it was because I was spending a ton of quality time with my mom. And that sure is true. I’m dragging her around the state and in the process of it all wearing myself out!

Yesterday we stayed in the area and headed out to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to explore a bit. Of course I wasn’t smart enough to park in the upper circle parking lot so I forced Mom to walk all the way up the theatre…what can I say, I offer great workouts with stellar views!

Both times I have been up to Red Rocks I’ve lucked out…not a lot of people! Yesterday there were wedding photos getting taken and a fair amount of people, but not a complete cluster. I don’t do well with clusters…

Our next stop was supposed to be the Bear Creek Lake Park but then I realized we had to pay to get in…um, no. Usually we bike there from our place so I had no clue about the fees. I was going to force Mom to climb another hill but alas, my cheap ways saved her!

Instead we headed over to the South Platte Park to wander around the trails. I’ve run on a few of these trails before but the sun was still shining so we decided to go exploring. Mom managed to get some beautiful fall photos…

I was all decked out in my running clothes so I figured I might as well get my run on. Since Mom was walking on the trails I decided to run out ahead of her and then after 5 minutes or so double back, walk a bit, then head out running again. This worked pretty good. I was aiming for 30 minutes and managed to fit in 28…and I did have to loop around parking lot a few times!

Today we stayed even closer to home with a super lazy morning, and afternoon 9 mile bike ride on the Bear Creek Trail and dinner out. Tomorrow morning we are up bright and early for a drive across town to the airport…Mom is heading home! Looks like we will be able to manage a full 5.5 days together without any major emotional or physical injuries!

Oh, and just in case the beautiful fall colors didn’t convince you…fall is definitely still here in Colorado! And I think I can seriously get used to how Colorado defines fall! Check out the 10 day forecast…

Yes, you read that right. On Monday we have a high of 75, on Wednesday we are expecting 3+ inches of snow and then by next weekend we are back into the upper 50’s. And the temperatures aren’t just amazing…look at all of that sun! Much better than Wisconsin’s forecast which calls for low 50’s, rain and lots of clouds.

Red Rocks & the Beauty of Fall! — 9 Comments

    • So far we haven’t ventured too far off the main touristy areas of Red Rocks but I’ve seen some of the trails from afar and have been meaning to check them out! I didn’t even know they had a museum thingy, but if it was anywhere near the Trading Post we avoided that area since it was full of wedding people.

    • I am so not used to weather like this, but I really can’t complain…it was 80 degrees yesterday and the now the snow has moved up to 6-12 inches which might completely change our plans that involve a flight out of Denver on Wednesday! Guess our short trip home needed some added excitement!
