Breaking Up…

Its over. Done. Kaput. For now anyway. My Garmin and I have official broken up. We kept arguing. I didn’t exactly like the numbers it was telling me so I’ve decided to call it quits. Its not that I don’t believe the numbers being spit out by the Garmin, sometimes I just don’t want to know. I want to run based on feel, not what a silly wrist computer is telling me. More importantly, this stupid red block with buttons was able to make a relatively good run feel crappy…all because of the numbers. …collecting dust in the nerd cove… Moreover, I’m not training for anything. I have no reason to obsess over speed or distance or anything like that. Right now I need to be able to go out and run, for fun. For no reason other than “I can”. The Garmin was messing with that. I know I have speed…more speed than I have ever had before. At least for a mile or so. Its on the “easy” runs that I fight with the Garmin. Or the runs … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Marathon Monday–Wk 15: Just Keep Moving Forward…

Alternate Post Titles…I MISS Speedwork…Huh?!My Bike Bones are BruisedI Ran TWENTY Miles This week its all about just moving forward…and not stopping. Well, the speedwork is about moving forward quickly and not slowing, but whatever, same basic concept, right? I’ll break it all down for you real quick – quick like a lame bunny who really isn’t all that quick. In other words, there are going to be a lot of words in this post, enjoy! Speed Work… After all that time I spent flaunting how super awesome and amazing my newfound running group is I’ve kind of been skipping out on runs with them. I have a whole slew of excuses that started out as legitimate “I’m sick” and became “but it’s the last night I get to sit on my couch at our first CO apartment…”. This Wednesday I kicked Excuse-Making Elma out and headed down for group speed work. Turns out it was worth the trip! I ended up winning a fancy schmancy running top – albeit a little small but you always layer with a long … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Platte River Half + 4Miles {race recap}

Workout Wanda: A half marathon + 4 miles for 17.2 miles in 2:51:34, a pace of 9:59. Today I ran 17.2 miles. Seventeen freaking miles. And more importantly I survived, barely. My goal was to make it to 18 or 19 miles but thanks to Fred’s disappearing act when I needed to leave the house I didn’t make it down to the race start in time to get a full 6 miles in. Instead I settled for only 4 miles. I figured I could add 2 or so more miles on after the race. Easy, cool down miles. Yeah, that didn’t happen. This race was not easy. I know, I know. Races aren’t supposed to be easy but I’ve never really figured out how to really race a race. Heck, 75% of the time my goal is to have fun – not PR – so I don’t really know what racing is. In my book it just means I pay a bunch of money for a tshirt, medal and chance to run with other crazy people! Anywho, about today’s race. … [Click Here For the Full Story]

FINE…I’ll run a marathon!

Saturday’s Workout Wanda: A 13.1 mile run with Kathy at Cherry Creek Park. Finished with a time of 2:24:15 which puts it at a solid 11:00 pace!Sunday’s Workout Wanda: Zilch…decided to make a rest day out of it! For the past few weeks and especially the past few days I’ve been seriously reconsidering the idea of bailing on the Fargo Marathon. Well, half bailing…dropping down to the half marathon. If you haven’t noticed by my lack of posts even remotely related to running there has not been a lot of running going on in my life. Not exactly a good thing when you are 9, 10 and 11 weeks into marathon training. Whoops. The idea of running 13.1 miles rather than 26.2 miles became more and more appealing. Thirteen miles is attainable, twenty-six miles is crazy talk. Training for a half marathon is time consuming, full marathon training becomes life consuming. All this thinking had me psyching myself out of running at all. Not good. Not good at all! I was struggling to get myself outside to run. Running was … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Uphill & Into the Wind!

Friday’s Workout Wanda: An hour of snowshoeing plus hiking up Berthoud Pass for backcountry boarding…then hiking back to the car because we took the wrong way!Saturday’s Workout Wanda: Ummm…does having my Borderlands character run/jump count?Sunday’s Workout Wanda: A 16 mile run! Ran in 2:43:29, pace of 10:12…acceptable! Yesterday I completely bailed on my run. Rather than being active we took a complete, 100% rest day. A few errands were ran, during which a video game may have been purchased. Said video game may have kept us entertained into the evening hours… So, since I was busy fighting off the bad guys on Saturday my long run of the week was moved to Sunday. I probably should have been more worried about getting the miles in but I was being cocky and confident…apparently that paid off! I’m completely exhausted and only writing this now because I’ve busy fake stretching on the living room floor and getting up is just too much work! In hopes of making sense I’m only forcing my brain of mush to create a list of things you … [Click Here For the Full Story]
