Hiking with Sierra Trading Post {Square Top + Wilcox}

A few weeks ago I got an email from Andy at Sierra Trading Post inviting me on a mountain hiking adventure with a few Denver bloggers – Heather, Lynne, Lauren – and Chris, the STP videographer. I got excited. My reply back may have had an excessive number of explanation points. Then, just before I hit send, I checked the date – Saturday, September 28th. Son of a… All of my happy explanation points got backspaced and replaced by “I wish I could but…”. That was the day of my first ultra – the Bear Chase 50K. I made everyone promise to have extra fun for me and focused on my ultra weekend. Fast forward to the Friday night before the 50K. I had picked up my race packet and was attempting to put everything together for race morning when … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Hiking Holy Cross

I like to think I’m capable of planning ahead. I mean, you should see the lists I make when packing – they get color coordinated and sometimes I start them days in advance. I’m weird like that. But that doesn’t mean I always remember things. Like that one time when we left home at 1am to drive up to Vail for a 5am hike up Mount of the Holy Cross with Paula. We made it approximately 75 miles away from home (to Frisco, for the local yocals) when gas became a necessity. No big deal. Except for the fact that we both left our wallets at home and only had $0.62 in the car. Not kidding. I counted the change, that is all we had. Seeing how it was about 2:30am at this point we didn’t have a lot of … [Click Here For the Full Story]

A Red Sunrise {Redcloud + Sunshine}

Exactly one week ago today we joined the masses and headed into the mountains for the holiday weekend. In an effort to stay as far away from the crowds as possible we decided to explore a new, far-from-Denver range – the San Juans. We head into the mountains at least once a week but we haven’t ventured very far south. This seemed like a great excuse to take a drive, check out a new range and hike a few mountains. We had high hopes for three summits – Redcloud Peak + Sunshine Peak and Handies Peak. The plan was to drive up to the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch trailhead and backpack a short distance up the trail to Redcloud/Sunshine then start out for the summits before dawn. If all went well on these two summits we’d relocate our campsite and head … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Mt Evans Ascent…next year!?

Its been a few days since “the race”. I’ve spent some time thinking. I have done some serious refueling. I even spent a little time recovering, approximately 36 hours. And…I spent some time talking about how much better I’ll do in next year’s race. Yes. I want to do it again. The race was rough but the misery faded quickly. A little too quickly – I was already thinking about 2014 before I went to bed on Saturday night. That’s a quick fade – its been over a year and I still haven’t been able to talk myself into another marathon! Granted, that is more because of the training than the actual race. …just past the Mile 3 aid station, I have a handful of peanut M&Ms… I don’t mean to dwell on the race for too long but come … [Click Here For the Full Story]

It’s a long weekend…

It seems about right that I would go to a blogger retreat, write two posts than forget I even have a blog. I make sense like that. Life has been busy…but not exactly exciting. Well, kind of exciting, just not blog-worthy, photo-filled exciting. I got home from BLEND on Sunday, picked Chris’s brother, Ethan, up from the airport on Monday, escaped to the mountains on Tuesday, waved good-bye to Ethan and caught up on work stuff Wednesday, spent at least 10 hours working at Panera on Thursday, paid a little attention to the house and packing on Friday and played more work catch up today. And now it’s officially the weekend – a long weekend! I am caught up with my random work just enough to justify leaving it all behind once again…this time for some quiet time in the … [Click Here For the Full Story]
