Risking It – Weekend Snowboarding {Keystone}

Yesterday we decided to risk it…we made the drive up to Summit County on a Sunday. If you have ever driven into the mountains on a weekend you know exactly why we’ve been avoiding this for the past two years. Weekend traffic – combined with weekend lift lines – can be absolutely horrible! We figured an early start to the day during the early season would give us an advantage. Turns out this tactic worked out pretty darn well for us! We met Lynne at the Dino Lots at 7:15am and were parked at Keystone by 8:30am. Probably the earliest I’ve ever been in a resort parking lot! Cupcake! And the backside of Keystone…with SNOW! Turns out front row parking and perfectly groomed trails aren’t the only perk to arriving before the lifts start – Keystone was giving out cupcakes! … [Click Here For the Full Story]

It’s been three decades… {Copper Mountain}

There is a lot of exciting stuff going on in my life right now. As in, Denver got a bit of a snowstorm this weekend…finally, enough snow to make it nearly impossible to drive my plastic car on the roads before the snowplows made a few trips! I love snow. It kind of sucks that snow can cancel plans, but we need it, badly! Of course, the snow had to come the same day my mom was flying in! Not exactly what we were planning on, but it worked itself out. I mean, who doesn’t want to hang out at the airport doing homework on the floor near the garbage can while waiting for a plane to slowly make its way up to the gate?! That was me…but only for about 30 minutes – far shorter than the time Mom … [Click Here For the Full Story]

More Runs…More Views! {Copper Mountain}

It’s finally starting to feel like winter here in Denver. And by “feel like winter” I mean it drops below 30 degrees on a nightly basis. We still have gorgeous days of 45+ but the mountains have a little snow! Not a ton, but a little. Just enough to open a few new runs at Copper. Enough for a day of snowboarding at Copper Mountain! It was a cloudy day today so boarding was interesting. We are so used to bluebird days around here it takes a little time to get used to a day of riding without any depth perception! I kept hitting dips I didn’t realize were there until I was…well, hitting them! About the time we were ready to start counting down our last runs the clouds dissipated and the sun was shining! This was our third … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Hiking Loveland Pass

Workout Wanda: Travel…does that count? I almost headed out for a run then my flight time couldn’t make up its mind so I skipped the run – in the end a good plan! **Ideally this post would have gone up early this afternoon; however, the Denver airport’s internet is a complete joke. Luckily for me I get to spend hours there on Sunday because I’m too cheap to pay for parking and am making Chris pick me up after work – if you happen to be flying thru Denver let me know!** This morning I realized just how amazing 8 full hours of sleep can be. Freaking awesome, by the way! As soon as I bounced out of bed I got a text message saying my flight was delayed from 2:20 to 3:55. Sweet…I could probably fit a run in … [Click Here For the Full Story]

One Day. Two Mountains.

Wednesday’s Workout Wanda: A 1 mile run with Chris along on the skateboard. Entertaining!Thursday’s Workout Wanda: Ran 1.5 miles outside then did run/lift circuits with Chris in the complex gym – total of 3 miles ran, untimed but increasing speed on the TM. We did some quick math on our drive up to the mountains yesterday…basically we concluded that the snow is melting, spring is coming and we still have 7 Vail days left to use up on our season passes. That is about as specific as our math gets. It also meant we were headed up to Vail. “gah, another stupid photo to pose for…” The last two times we’ve been up to Vail it just happened to be on snowy powder days. Thursday was not snowy and definitely not powdery. Instead it was warm and sunny – which … [Click Here For the Full Story]
