Earning Legit Ultra Cred

It has been almost two weeks since I ran my first ultra race – the Bear Chase 50K. When I wrote the race recap I had a million things to say about the race and my overall experience – as is evident by the 3,000 word recap! I cut out a lot of little details with plans to do a follow up post, but now, weeks later, I don’t have the words for the feelings. But I do have lots of race day photos to share – thanks to Running Guru – and a few plans for my running future… Around Mile 5 I do know one thing, I don’t feel like an ultra runner. I know that is silly. I ran an ultra, I am an ultra runner. For the first time ever I understand where people are coming … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Bear Chase 50k – My First Ultra

I have officially ran my first ultra – the Bear Chase 50K – so I guess that means I get to start calling myself an ultra marathoner, right? It feels weird to say that. In the grand scheme of things 31 miles really isn’t that far, especially when you consider 50 miles or 100 miles or more. And this 50K was hands down easier than any of my marathons, both mentally and physically. That doesn’t mean I won’t talk nonstop about this race to anyone who will listen… We’re all actually really lucky this race even happened this weekend. The race is held in Bear Creek Lake Park which is apparently designed to dam up any flood waters before it can take out thousands of homes to the east. With all the rain in Colorado lately the park and its … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Xterra Half Marathon {1st trail race}

The Xterra half marathon has been on my Google Calendar for months before I signed up. My inquires into trail racing started with this race series. Right after the Wild West Relay I started pondering the possibility of running the Xterra full marathon. I told a few too many people of my crazy thoughts and some how I got talked into an every longer race…the 50K I plan on rocking at tomorrow. Initially I was going to just skip this race all together but Chris has been legitimately playing around with running and wasn’t opposed to the idea of a 5K, especially if it were on trails and involved some downhill. Turns out the Xterra race offered a 5K so we both signed up – a 5K for Chris, a half marathon for me. Pre-race photo. Gotta love fall races … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Crewing an Ultra – My Run, Rabbit, Run Weekend

Last Monday I was lazing around to “recover” from my weekend in Steamboat Springs where wandered around eating bacon, massaging tired, dirty runner legs and soaking up every tiny detail of my first ultra experience. I wasn’t running so it feels weird to recap the Run, Rabbit, Run ultra but it was an experience. An incredible experience I’d love to share, even if it only gives one other person in a similar situation the balls to go for it, meet the strangers and say yes to a crazy suggestion! How did I end up in Steamboat Springs crewing for a runner I’d never met before? Honestly, I don’t know exactly where it really started, but it all snowballed into a long, sleepless weekend in the mountains with one innocent Tweet from Paula… Want to see the full conversation complete with … [Click Here For the Full Story]

Getting Stronger…and Smarter

I’ve been doing a lot of mountain talk lately but you can’t blame me…did you see the photos? Unfortunately I have not yet figured out how to swing a life 100% in the mountains so I do return to the land of the living during the week. Luckily I live in an area that has gorgeous views even from town… Green Mountain & Matthew/Winters Park With the 50K race coming up I’ve been trying to spend as much time as possible on the trails. Or that is my excuse to drive away from my house rather than run away from my house, no part of me really needs convincing to get out on the trails. I’m pretty sure we are in love with each other – we haven’t even gotten in a fight over a rogue, abusive rock yet! Most … [Click Here For the Full Story]
